Review of The Devil's Double (2011) by Phil N — 06 Dec 2011
Party animal Uday - son of Saddam - Hussain (Dominic Cooper) strong arms old school friend Latif (Cooper again) to become his body double. Latif soon discovers that Uday is on a self destructive path and struggles to break free from the mad dictator's heir.
Based on Latif's real experiences - although you feel that director Lee Tamahori has used this as a basis for a more fictional account - it's an interesting premise that certainly works in the first half of the film as the two men work together, but tires a little in the second half as Uday's increasingly erratic behaviour takes over.
Nonetheless Cooper deserves much credit for his dual performances and seems to really relish his roles here.
