Review of The Devil's Double (2011) by Johnny L — 01 Jun 2012
'The Devil's Double' is based on a book by Latif Yahia, who claims to have been forced to be the body-double for Saddam Hussein's son, Uday. It is a very shocking story set during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
What makes the movie all the more interesting is Dominic Cooper's dual roles as both Latif & Uday. He very convincingly portrays both men who are polar opposites. One being a calm, decent man kidnapped and his family threatened if he does not comply.
The other a spoiled, psychotic playboy who cares of nothing save himself. The story lacks a strong arc and conclusion but I would recommend seeing it for the performances alone.
