Review of The Devil's Double (2011) by Jamie C — 10 Aug 2012
The true story of Latif Yahia, the man who was forced to become Uday Hussein's double. The trailers for this film make it look like a brash action film but it's not. It's actually a very chilling portrait of a complete sociopath,a man who had the run of an entire country and who was allowed to do whatever he pleased without the fear of consiquence.
The film is based on one of 3 books written by Yahia and it's a compelling but quite frightening watch. Dominic Cooper is very good as Hussein and Yahia making them 2 completely different people and his portrait of Hussein's madness and utter disregard for human life is brilliant if a little disturbing.
You hear plenty of stories in the news about how dictators and their family's live and what they put their people through but to have it put into such a recreational context really left me shocked.
Watch this film but be warned, some of it's quite heart breaking.
