Review of The Devil's Double (2011) by Mizanur R — 04 Dec 2013
Pretty interesting concept, and maybe a pretty good job of acting. Lots of hate online and I guess I didn't see that coming. A good looking soldier is basically abducted to be a body double for one of Saddam Hussein's psychotic boys. Cooper plays both the insane Uday and the soldier trying to not become Uday.
Given the range of the two characters, and given how awkward it must have been to have two characters in the same scene, I'd say Cooper did an admirable job. I guess I thought the story could be true, but figured a ton of liberties were taken in the making of the movie. Who knows? Taken as that - fiction - it's not terrible. It's a compelling story for a while, then gets silly toward the end. If if's supposed to be based on a true story, and it seemed like parts of if are, I hope the writers did their research and got some facts right. That's what most of the hate is about, the alleged fantasies of the man on which Cooper's character is based.
