Review of The Devil's Arithmetic (1999) by Michael M — 21 Jul 2009

I read the book when I was in eighth grade, and I LOVED it. I t blew my mind. I was so happy to see they made a movie adaptation, but frankly it just doesn't work as well as a movie. Also, much of the horror of the concentration camps feels very toned down.

Bad stuff still happens, no doubt, but it's not as horrifying as it should be, and not as heart-wrenching as it was in the book.
