Review of The Devil's Advocate (1997) by Sapphire G — 09 Mar 2011
Even in mediocre movies Al Pacino cannot deliver a mediocre performance, he is beyond acting. His Satan was probably the only reason why I endured this 'till the end. He played it with relish and viciousness, providing some funny, witty, and often pondering lines:
"It's the goof of all time. Look but don't touch. Touch, but don't taste. Taste, don't swallow. Ahah. He's an absentee landlord.".
Quite a performance treat.
Keanu Reeves was right in his character, nothing groundbreaking, but a good enough job. The story is contrived, ludicrous, and plain silly. The mother quoting the Bible every 2 seconds annoyed me senseless.
I was betting they would include the Stones' "Sympathy for the devil" somewhere in the soundtrack, instead they put on "Paint it black." Pretty close.
