Review of The Devils (1971) by Matt M — 30 Jan 2013
Film based on the true story of a 17th century French priest libertine lifestyle made him an enemy of Cardinal Richelieu and was hence accused of being the devil's son. A controversial, eccentric and stylish vision of decadence with nightmarish visuals, extravagant sets and costumes and a rising energy that constantly follows the film, which is one of Ken Russell's most defining works.
