Review of The Devil Wears Prada (2006) by Mimi S — 04 Nov 2012
Grade: A*.
The Devil Wears Prada is absolutely fantastic; initially to me the film didn't seem that appealing, but when I saw it it immediately became one of my favourite films. Meryl Streep gives an astounding performance as usual; she's one of the best actresses of this generation. Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci were also sensational. The film is about a naive and unfashionable college graduate, Andi (Hathaway) who takes up a job offer at Runway Magazine, working for Miranda Priestly (Streep), the icy and cold editor-in-chief whom everyone fears. If Andi manages to stick it out for a year she can get a job anywhere she wants. Andi doesnt fit in with her bitchy colleagues including the catty Emily (Blunt) and struggles to meet Miranda's unreasonable and impossible demands. I think that this film is so sharp and incredibly witty; the script is absolute gold and so well written with so many great lines. This film really is an eye-opener on how bitchy the world of fashion can be and portrays it such a realistic way. I love the characters and it's so well acted. A big thumbs up to this film!
