Review of The Devil Wears Prada (2006) by The Critic ( — 19 May 2013
"You don't deserve them, I mean you eat carbs!".
Just one of the witty, snappy examples of dialogue from 'The Devil Wears Prada' that makes it an instantly quotable film.
Meryl Streep relishes the role of fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly (modeled on 'Vogue' editor-in-chief Anna Wintour), having fun with the material at hand. Anne Hathaway is our lovable protagonist who goes through the motions of climbing the corporate ladder, at the detriment of her loved ones, whilst under the tough love guidance of Stanley Tucci. But it's Emily Blunt's turn as Priestly's senior assistant (by whom the aforementioned quote is delivered in a shrill of emotion) that steals the show.
Lots of fun throughout, with a great soundtrack and (of course) costume design, this is one of the better chick flicks of its era.
