Review of The Devil Rides Out (1968) by Colin F — 03 Jul 2011
Without a doubt one of Hammers best ever films, to be honest I love all the Hammer Horrors but this one sits above the rest for having a very strong script and some really excellent performances. When a young Patrick Mower starts messing with the devil, it is up to Christopher Lee on this rare occasion playing a goody to try and bail him out.
To be honest it is not really a scary film just a really good action packed one, praise has to go to Charles Gray who plays the head of the devil worshippers, his performance really is superb and was made for him.
If I was to be real pickey some of the visual effects are slightly dodgy like the giant spider and the goat of Mendes could have a spin of series on CBBC! Well it was 1968 besides this a bloody good film, get drawing that chalk circle!
