Review of The Devil Came on Horseback (2007) by Jean-Francois V — 02 Jul 2008
Like "Shake Hands with the Devil", "The Devil Came on Horseback" is a documentary about one good man's encounter with African genocide.
In this case, the hero is former US marine Brian Steidle, who was involved in "monitoring" the peace process after the 20-year civil war in Sudan. For six months, Steidle witnessed the atrocities committed by the Jinjaweed, government-backed, -trained, and -armed muslim warriors who sacked, raped, mutilated, killed and burned their way through Darfur.
The film documents what Steidle saw, and his effort to make the US government do something about it, or to make the American people make their government do something.
