Review of The Devil Below (2021) by Hellholehorror — 30 Mar 2023
The technical elements of this film are excellent. The rest are either bad or so average it's not even worth mentioning. But I will. I think I'm going to lay most of the blame for this unoriginal film of boredom onto the writing.
It is the most unoriginal, boring and outright nonsensical series of forgettable characters doing very little whilst copying badly from so many good films. Maybe I should blame the director for ripping off so much.
The reveal of the monsters is lifted directly from The Descent (2005). The Aliens (1986), Phantoms (1998), Silent Hill (2006) inspiration are too obvious. The character motivations make no sense. The monsters look terrible shuffling along and their lifecycle and anatomy make no sense and they try to hide how bad the monsters look by using a filter over most of the shots that they are in.
Unoriginal. Boring. Stupid. Save for life for something else, it's not even bad-good.
