Review of The Devil and Daniel Johnston (2006) by Phil N — 26 Jul 2009

I knew the name but didn't know anything about the man or his music until a friend recommended that I watch this film. I'm glad that I did. The Devil... is a fascinating roc-doc recounting the musician's life and career though all manner of friend's accounts, old tape recordings, journals and artwork.

From the highs of his beautiful lyrics to the lows of his manic depression, it's a riveting portrait of a troubled artist. He's playing here in Brighton later this year, I think I will go and see him after watching this.
