Review of The Devil and Daniel Johnston (2006) by Angel O — 08 Aug 2009
One of the best documentaries I've ever seen. Fantastic editing. This movie is just as much about the creative process of the archetypal artist as it is about the specific details of Daniel's fascinating yet tragic life.
In turn depressing and inspiring. Daniel Johnston is a true tortured genius. His demons are definitely reflected in his unique music and art. His work is an acquired taste but I find most of the time that talent is not in how "well" you do something formally but if you have your own statement to make.
