Review of The Devil and Daniel Johnston (2006) by Julian T — 11 Nov 2010
Documentary that explores the roller coaster ride life of folk music hero Daniel Johnston from his childhood to his current state of affairs. Daniel comes from a large religious family that he doesn't seem to fit in with and during junior high school he becomes manic depressive.
After moving from his parents house in West Virginia Daniel moves in with family members from Florida until he ends up in Austin, TX where his musical genius is discovered and so is his madness. Touching story of a family that wouldn't give up on a member and also the cost of fame to someone that isn't fully mentally stable.
