Review of The Descendants (2011) by Gary N — 05 Sep 2012
Those focused on Hollywood popcorn flicks will no doubt find this a slow, ponderous and meandering drama. However, given its focus around the impending death of a comatose adulterous wife- it has a real warmth and a sense of humour throughout proceedings. Hawaii acts as the backdrop-and aided by a traditional local music score- the mood & setting elevate it somewhat.
Clooney plays a plain Everyman style character who has to deal with rebellious kids, switching off his wife's life support and been told of her affair -& unable to ask her for answers- goes in search of her lover.
Not for everyone , but a nice change of pace for others.
