Review of The Descendants (2011) by Reza M — 21 Dec 2012
On a pure cinematic level, The Descendants is as close to flawless as it can get, albeit relying on a rather simplistic and mundane script. The imagery and directing truly makes this film a piece of art and it is through these feelings generated through images that the movie rely on for the majority of the time as it tries to resonate with viewers.
This works extremely well and is done masterfully, but Brian's decision towards the end left me baffled and unsatisfied, and feels like it is a delineation from the rest of the film. It is an interesting thought that what one does, either purposefully or not during his/her lifetime, could leave behind as a burden to people around you.
