Review of The Departed (2006) by Viktor B — 25 Jul 2013
One of the best gangster films ever to be put to film. It boasts an all star cast that manages to deliver it's very best in terms of performance. It's as brutal as it it is wonderfully intricate.
This is a tale of often questionable ethics where you never know who exactly stands where. This is one of the things that makes The Departed work. While it's not a roid pumping, high octane type of film, it retains a sense of energy and intensity without falling back on over the top violence to make it so.
There is some very real brutal violence in here and it wouldn't be a gangster film without it, but the violence is not what drives this film. Not to mention that the Dropkick Murphys lend this one what is arguably one of the most kickass theme songs in film history.
