Review of The Departed (2006) by Axandre L — 26 Oct 2013
Many people may disagree with me, but I believe The Departed to be one of the most un-Hollywood movies to ever win best picture. *SPOILERS* The film has no clearly defined good or bad guys. Main characters die without warning and the audience is left with no time to mourn them. Justice isn't always served and there is no happy ending.
The fact that Leonardo DiCaprio wasn't even nominated for an academy award for this film is criminal but Scorsese was finally given a long overdue statuette for his masterful direction. The Departed is already a classic of the crime genre and, in my opinion, one of the best films of this new millennium.
