For a Martin Scorsese film, this sucked, I don't care what the critics and everybody else has to say...

For an average director with average actors, this might have been a solid-enough film (with holes in it), but for the quality of people making it? Bad, bad, bad...

The best I can say for it: It plays better the 2nd or 3rd time you watch it. The first time, I thought the pacing was horrible and that it seemed like something Scorsese was trying to do something with - but made it worse.

This was also another one of the movies Leonardo CiCaprio's habit of overacting did significant damage to. It seemed like it encouraged Jack Nicholson to go too far as well, which happens to him much less frequently. Matt Damon was OK, but something about his character seemed too shallow.

I can't recommend watching this...
