Review of The Delta Force (1986) by Spencer T — 13 Jun 2009
Every bit your classic 80's action cheese-fest (which has to be equal parts insulting and hilarious to real-life special forces) but marred by the tedious pro-Jewish crap such as the annoying sentimental scene where several of the hijacked passengers are called to the front of the plane by the eeevil Arab terrorists for the "crime" of having a Jewish-sounding name.
I wouldn't have minded if it were short and to the point but it goes on for so long that you end up being suffocated by the message being rammed down your throat! Still, enough about that, what else can I say? What else do I need to say? We've got Chuck Norris who's more interested in pulling wheelies than shooting bad guys, we've got Lee Marvin who appears to be either drunk, stoned, or both, we've got rocket-launching motorbikes, we've got black camouflage working wonders in a cotton field and of course we've got THAT theme tune.
Seriously, what the hell? Not only does it not work at all as the backdrop to an action scene but it never, ever stops. Ever!! Strangely the most effective part of the film is the low-key ending following the death of one of the team.
Chuck even gives actual acting a shot. Good on ya! :).
