Review of The Defiant Ones (1958) by Nathan H — 18 Oct 2013
A story of a white man and a black man having to overcome their racism is certainly a product of it's time (at least it is for most people). That does not mean that it can't be enjoyed as a window into a period right before racial tensions exploded for real all across America.
The performance of the two main characters is strong and compelling. The story can be a little slow and hap hazard at times, but many of the scenes on there own are quite effective.
