Review of The Defiant Ones (1958) by Jim H — 27 Jan 2015
Makes the well â" stated point without overstating it about race and bigotry. Makes sure not to go over â" the â" top with any of its salient points, and Kramer make sure that none of the actors go overboard to become caricatures of themselves.
Curtis and Poitier are a fascinating study in the ultimate love â" hate relationship. The character actors surrounding the story are fantastic, but Kramer is smart enough never to deviate too far away from the interaction between the two main characters.
While the ending is a bit abrupt and rather disappointing, it goes along with the rest of the story: completely understated. A definite must-see.
