Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Justin M — 23 Jun 2010
This is a good movie. I understand that. It does a good job of really establishing how war can destroy so many lives, even in those that survive. There are, however, two things that annoy me about it. First is the, ahem, leisurely pace of the film, especially in the middle.
Second is how it seems to try to ram "poignancy" down the viewer's throat. But other than that this is a solid Viet Nam epic.
