Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Todd H — 01 Aug 2011
An incredibly sad movie, with one of the greatest ensemble cast performances ever. The Russian Roulette/ "One Shot" theme is hauntingly iconic. Common complaints about its first act being overlong miss the point: the setup of the characters makes all of the later hardships as tragic as anything ever put on film.
This is not a fun film by any stretch of the imagination, but it is supremely emotional.
