Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Tom D — 01 Oct 2012
The acting is absolutely superb and the emotion felt through the characters constantly building relationships are honest and true. A slightly dark but an emotionally prevalent film with scenes like the memorable prisoner of war scene and the effect the traumatic experience had on each of the characters.
The problem with this film is not it's directing and certainly not it's acting, but it's complete lack of empathy for the vietnamese side of the awful unnecessary war. It seems to be too patriotic almost to a jingoist sense of patriotism, showing an overly bias perspective to the americans over the vietnamese who were the real victims of the war.
