Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Anssi V — 02 Nov 2012
Michael Cimino's epic on the Vietnam war is brutal, but sympathetic. Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken give incredibly real performances of soldiers truly feeling the effects of war. The Russian roulette scenes are some of the most intense in any film I've seen.
Unfortunately, the first act is a bit dry, but it definitely establishes the genuine friendship that the main characters have for each other. This movie is truly remarkable.
