Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Christopher G — 23 Jan 2016
I know it's a classic, but this movie was just way too long and not well-paced. It's interesting to me that the pre-war act was so long and the events during the war are basically reduced to one (very gripping and tense) scene.
The point of the movie is to show how Vietnam affected three men from the same small town, but I don't think enough time was spent showing exactly what the war did. I also didn't really think it was incredibly believable how everyone played russian roulette all over the place, and it's a cheap way to heighten tension.
