Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Sam M — 24 Nov 2015
No movie has ever really made me walk away after watching it and stayed with me for a long time after. Until I saw The Deer Hunter. This film takes you into a small town and a small group of friends having fun, loving life and tops it off with a great party for a wedding and then turns everything upside down in the blink of an eye when the party is over and the friends head off into the Vietnam War.
What transpires after the insanely intense war scenes is something so emotional you cannot even began to fathom. I think Robert Deniro is at his most stripped down for the film and maybe at his best. His quiet understated performances is one of a lifetime.
Meryl Streep, John Cazale and Christopher Walken all deliver Oscar worthy performances as well. This movie will make you feel very sad actually, it is not for everyone.
