Review of The Deep Blue Sea (2011) by Catrina W — 05 Dec 2011
Not really sure what to say about this film, it was all a bit absurd. It was like a British post-war film relying on german expressionism and soviet montage. The music in the intro was very german cinema filled with tragedy and doom. The narrative structure is confusing blurring time, meaning your trying to pick up the plot as you go along with the feeling of wanting to playback the movie to make sense of things. There's a huge amount of meaning to be made from it's soviet montage techniques which means it's a film you need to see more than once to fully understand.
Rachel Weitz is complicated in my words a bit of pyschopath character, her character construction is disjointed coming across as working class, an aristocrat, independent and needy all in a few hours.
