Review of The Deep Blue Sea (2011) by Michael L — 29 Jun 2013
To put it simply, THE DEEP BLUE SEA is another masterwork from Terence Davies. A film that sits along beautifully with DISTANT VOICES, STILL LIVES and THE LONG DAY CLOSES. Davies has adapted Rattigan's play to feel both totally modern and immaculately true to its time.
This is a film about passion--a bizarre level headed kind of passion that consumes but is so far better than the empty alternative. I love this movie!! Rachel Weisz has never been better and Simon Russell Beale is nothing short of astonishing.
Simply superb.
