Review of The Deep Blue Sea (2011) by Saad K — 10 Jul 2012
The Deep Blue Sea - TRASH IT (C-).
There is disappointment written all over this movie, from start to finish it never picks up. The story about a married woman falling for young guy is not new but still can be presented interestingly. But Deep Blue Sea falls to bring any dept, emotion or concern to its lead characters. It looked like something gone terribly wrong writing the screenplay since there is no sense to what this woman does or do. If it's all on the name of Sex, then where is the Sex? If this all on the name of Love then where is the Love? If this is all of the Excitement, then where was the Excitement? There is no Love, Sex or excitement in their lives.
Rachel Weisz is good but to be honest very boring, if the direction is bad then it's her responsibly to bring some soul to her character which she falls to do so. Tom Hiddleston brings some spunk whenever he yells at her because suddenly you start paying attention to what's actually happening. Simon Beale is fine.
On the whole, it's very disappointing not because there is no sharks but because there is no soul to it.
