Review of The Deep Blue Sea (1994) by Antony R — 05 Dec 2011
Well that puts things in perspective... Too much fucking perspective.
Rachel Weiss is very good at smoking in this relentlessly downbeat adaptation. Occasionally brilliant, occasionally frustrating, the characters inability to communicate with each other allows them to take increasingly worse decisions that drags a love triangle to the pits of despair until they all realise this is ludicrous, leave each other and we all exhale. I love the bonkers time lines, Act 1: 10 months in 20 minutes, Act 2 a day in an hour, Act 3 the morning after in 10 minutes and who doesn't love the pub. The spectre of war dominates everything and brings collective PTSD to the point where it's FUBARd. Thank god that's over.
