Review of The Deep Blue Sea (1994) by Kenneth B — 22 Jun 2012
I really wanted to like this and there are good things in here so I find myself giving it the benefit of the doubt but there are certain plot elements that just fail to ring true and at times it is just way to ponderous.
Having said that I think this is the best acting I have seen from Rachel Weisz and I quite liked it in terms of style, the use of non-diegetic sound in particular. Early on it seemed almost like it was going to play like a silent film, i.
E. with a constant score playing in the background, yet for the whole middle part of the film the score is completely removed. I find myself wanting to see more of Davies' work.
