Review of The Deep (1977) by Bill H — 28 Jan 2007
A colorful, exceiting underwater sunken-treasure/illicit drugs mystery thriller set in Bermuda. Many people...mostly males...say the first ten minutes of the film, wherein Jacqueline Bisset, in full scuba gear, swims around an underwater wreck in a white t-shirt that prominently displays her nipples, provides some of the best footage in the film. But there's more to see than that, here. There are speargun battles, exploding lighthouses, murders, double crosses, excellent performances by Robert Shaw, Nick Nolte, Louis Gossett, Jacqueline Bisset, Eli Wallach, and Robert Tessier....AND....one helluva moray eel.
The Deep, with its ship-hanging-over-the-edge-of-an-abyssal-drop-off theme is somewhat a re-do of an an old Jane Russell flick called "Underwater". In turn, "The Deep" itself has been updated and modified into the Jessica Alba thriller "Into the Blue".
This one is better. THIS cast can ACT.
