Review of The Deaths of Ian Stone (2008) by John R — 26 Mar 2008

It's hard to deliver the goods with horror films because the filmmakers must direct the film so that the audience feels a certain way. The Deaths of Ian Stone sets up and interesting premise about a young man who is being hunted by vampire-like creatures. Everytime he is killed he wakes up in a new life. Each day he is killed again and again. Kind of like Groundhog Day meets Near Dark..
Mike Vogel stars as Ian Stone. Though he has model good looks he is still able to show Ian as a vulnerable and slightly off-kilter character. The effects are okay for a lower budget film. By the end, however, the story spirals downward with one misstep after another. The horror make-up given to Vogel in the end makes the finale laughable. He looks a bit like mini-psycho-Fabio. Not a good combination..
