Review of The Deaths of Ian Stone (2008) by Don S — 28 Sep 2012
I found this supernatural horror to be intriguing and somewhat original; much better than reviews would have you believe which is why I don't read any until after I've seen a movie. The first time we meet Ian, he is a college hockey player who meets a grisly death at the hands of a supernatural being.
He awakens to find he is a desk-jockey in a dead-end job, and the nearly non-stop chase through the many lives and gory deaths (with well done special effects) begins. There is only one constant in all of his lives, a young lady named Jenny.
Therein lies the mystery. Why? The answer becomes fairly obvious, and the "reveal" is somewhat anti-climactic, but getting there was enjoyable. I saw this because it is one of the AfterDark Horrorfest '07 movies, whereas usually I follow actors.
The acting is decent; better than in many of such movies. Mike Vogel, who plays Ian, did a very good job. And though I don't really follow his career I found I've seen half of his 18 projects with more in my queue.
Maybe I will start looking for his movies more often.
