Review of The Death of Superman (2019) by Omar L — 02 Aug 2018
In 2007, DC released Superman: Doomsday, which told the now-classic story of the Death of Superman at the hands of Doomsday. It was...ok. In 2016, Warner Brothers released Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which featured an ending from the Death of Superman. It was...disappointing. Here, DC tries again, and this time, it works. Why? Because it was written by Peter J. Tomasi, a mainstay at DC Comics and one who knows why these stories matter. It isn't simply about fighting, it's about the stakes. Here, we see Clark and Lois grapple with their feelings, making them more relatable than we've seen in quite a while, so when the line "You've got me; then who's got you?" appears, it feels earned rather than corny.
This movie also features some of the best action sequences with the Justice League that are right up there with Justice League Unlimited, Flashpoint Paradox, and Young Justice. The movie also features very good voice acting from Jerry O'Connell and Rebecca Romijn. I am very much looking forward to the conclusion of this story.
