Review of The Death of Mr. Lazarescu (2005) by Scott K — 28 Aug 2007
This film's dedication to realism is astonishing. You could compare the experience of watching this film to standing around and watching an old sick man be transported from hospital to hospital for a night.
Whether that equals a good movie or not will depend on the viewer, but I thought it was fascinating throughout. It occasionally sacrifices entertainment, or being interesting for the sake of realism, but it is a truly impressive achievement.
Great characters and heartbreaking story. Oh, and it's labeled as a comedy, but don't expect one. It's pretty heavy.
