Review of The Death of Mr. Lazarescu (2005) by Pj P — 27 Jul 2008
Truly brilliant film but perhaps not to be watched by the over 60s. Blackest sort of black comedy with so much pathos, and so much truth. Two and a half hours and I couldn't stop watching - and you know what's going to happen too.
Lazerescu slowly drifts away amid indifference and occasional hostility with only one person on his side - and then she too goes home. Would it have been made if Cristi Puiu hadn't suffered from hypochondria?
