Review of The Dead Zone (1983) by Becky B — 09 Nov 2008
Surprised I missed this in my 70's supernatural upbringing, but was excellent, not dated at all, and will always be good. Well-acted by Walken especially, and I really like the unusual plot (the movie is divided into parts, almost, but smoothly connected ones).
Also, I noticed how the actors predict their own future roles through their characters... Johnny Smith mentions the Legend of Sleepy Hollow (Walken goes on to play the headless horseman) and Martin Sheen's character mentions going on to be president (and he does in the West Wing).
Just a stupid observation, in the theme of the movie. :P Anyway, I really like Stephen King adaptations (in spite of how horrible they can be), and Cronenberg has always had me (Scanners, the Fly). Debra Hill, also, is a producer worth mentioning (she did a lot with John Carpenter) and Dino de Laurentiis has produced some of my favorite movies (Barbarella, Dune, Conan, Silver Bullet, Cat's Eye, Orca, Army of Darkness).
