Review of The Dead Zone (1983) by Jesper M — 23 Jan 2009
While I find that many adaptions of Stephen King's novels aren't quite up to it, this belongs to the better ones. It's very mainstream and predictable, and even though it has a few brilliantly edited thriller scenes, the tempo is quite slow.
This is a result of the focus being on the protagonists internal struggle rather than the external one involving his psychic abilities. This might put off some spectators, but the films also shows some very good acting from several persons in the cast which might be what saves it in the end.
The film could have gone farther in many ways, but it's a good choice if you feel like seeing an uncomplicated film that doesn't demand much mental or emotional effort. This is not to say that it can't; for those interested in the moral of a story this one provides some thoughtprovoking questions.
