Review of The Dead Zone (1983) by Kyle M — 07 Aug 2008
Sharp, thrilling mainstream outing from the normally subversive Cronenberg might be the director's best overall movie. Maybe the quintessential Christopher Walken performance as the high school English teach who suddenly develops wicked-awesome psychic powers.
Who cares how he got them? Just roll with it! Martin Sheen's diabolical politicians threatens the film as a potentially dangerous subplot; instead, Sheen unloads a vicious performance in a role that only keeps things interesting.
Underrated.
