Review of The Dead Next Door (1989) by Cassandra M — 26 Mar 2009
This movie is just barely entertaining enough so that I don't feel the 78 minutes I spent watching it were a complete and utter waste that I will regret when I'm on my death bed. For the most part this is a by the numbers, seen one seen them all low budget 80's zombie movie.
The acting is terrible, the video quality poor, the dialogue seems poorly dubbed and the low budget shows all the more for some scenes where there should have bene gore (speaking part character deaths) where we instead just get a cut-away and some screaming.
WHile on the whole the movie is disappointing, it does have a few standout charming things going for it. The squad of people protesting the government's killing of zombies is great and seems all the more relevant today.
Pointing out the other specific places where this movie shows some unique charm would be spoiling things so I guess I'll leave it out. Watch this if you're in the mood for a zombie flick with some black humor, just don't expect to be wowed by it.
Know, however, that it does have it's moments. But they are fleeting.
