Review of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) by Alex B — 13 Dec 2008
Entertaining to watch, no doubt. Lots of great memorable lines in a move that's 90% dialogue. However, there's lots and lots of build-up to Klaatu's big message to the leaders of the world and I was expecting some hugely profound social statement to be made but then the reality that this is a sci-fi movie came crashing down and the message was, put simple, "World peace or we blow up your planet.
".
