Much like Planet of the Apes in that it's symbolism is all quite obvious, but doesn't make it any less successful. I haven't seen the remake, but after having seen this, I'm not sure it needs one.
The message here is just as powerful as it was in '51. People still haven't changed, and they probably never will.
