Review of The Day After (1983) by Jason S — 05 Sep 2008
My folks didn't let me watch this when it was first televised. I just got around to watching it recently (in a double-bill with WarGames), and I can sort of understand their decision. While some of the footage of the nuclear holocaust are a bit cheesy by today's standards, as a whole it's still incredibly powerful and terrifying.
And the aftermath is emotionally devastating. Considering this is an American made-for-TV movie, I was half-expecting a happy ending of some sort. I was not disappointed when the end did not live up to my expectations.
Chilling, haunting stuff. Oh, and good call, Mom and Dad, good call.
