Review of The Daughter (2015) by Karen A — 15 Mar 2016
An unusual and powerful film that explores the grim consequences of deceit and silence, and the danger of truths too long buried. Great performances - especially by Sam Neill, who perfectly conveys a thin life built on past shame and the dread weight of guilt projected inward.
Actually, I think he is the central character in this film, and Simon Stone's approach - which doesn't really let the audience invest too much in any one place - ultimately denies us the soil in which the emotional denouement must play out.
