Review of The Darkness (2016) by Spencer K — 18 May 2016
The Darkness showcases what is wrong with the horror genre. nothing new or original, lazy and cliched jump scares that barely worked anyway. I respect what Blumhouse is doing my making these micro budgeted horror films hat turn huge profits, but there last string of films have been very poor to just terrible.
this is definitely on the latter side. it's not like I had exactly high hopes for this, but I was at least hoping it wouldn't be as bad as whatever this was. Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell were good but anybody could've played them and it would've been no different.
I liked the Native American horror aspect to it, but it does absolutely nothing with it. it's a standard paint by the numbers horror film that does absolutely nothing new, not like it's given anything good to work with.
The Darkness was just a stupid mess of a film with absolutely lazy and cheap jump scares around every corner, terrible writing and has a ridiculous lack of scares or tension. it's just there and this should be forgotten and buried.
avoid at all costs.
