Review:

After waiting for over an hour for something to happen, I really didn't enjoy this, so-called horror, mainly because the plot wasn't that original and the characters wasn't interesting at all. The storyline is based around a dysfunctional family, who go to the Grand Canyon with another family for a vacation, and decide to have a BBQ near some caves. Kevin Bacon plays the father (Peter Taylor), whose young son Michael (David Mazouz), has some mental issues, and wanders off by some caves and finds some rocks, which he decides to take home in his backpack. When they return home from there vacation, Peter and his wife, Bronny (Radha Mitchell), whose an recovering alcoholic, try to sort out there troubled marriage, after Peter had an affair but they can't seem to get on, so Peter spends most of his time at work. They then realise that some strange things are happening around the house, and when there daughter, Stephanie (Lucy Fry) is attacked by a dog in bed, they finally decide to seek help from a psychic healer, who can feel paranormal activity in the house. After battling against the supernatural force, they soon realise that Michael holds the key to set them free but the demon is powerful, and he isn't willing to give up without a fight. How many times have we heard that type of plot before! The acting was pretty poor from the whole cast, and no one seemed that surprised about what was happening in the house. There is hardly any screaming, which was a bit weird, and the showdown at the end was pretty disappointing. The only good thing about the film is that it was good to see Kevin Bacon back on the big screen but apart from that, I really wasn't that impressed. Disappointing!

Round-Up:

Although I didn't think this movie was that great, it still made a profit at the box office, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was a sequel. It was directed by Greg McLean, whose also brought you Wolf Creek, Rogue and Wolf Creek 2. I wouldn't say he's an imaginative director with a unique vision, mainly because we have all seen this type of horror before, and the family did get on my nerves after a while. The CGI moments were also quite amateur, so he has a long way to go before he hits the big time.

Budget: $4million.

Worldwide Gross: $10.9million.

I recommend this movie to people who are into their horror/thrillers, starring Kevin Bacon, Radha Mitchell, Lucy Fry, Jennifer Morrison, Paul Reiser, Parker Mack and Matt Walsh. 2/10.
